At Outsource Now, we take pride in collaborative working. For this very reason we decided to partner with local consulting firm and NGO, Challenges Worldwide, welcoming a diverse team of business associates for three months over the winter period. Elsie Mupeta and Tamara Nkaka Nsofwa joined us as recent Zambian graduates, whilst Lauren Rofe joined us from the United Kingdom. As we progress into the final few weeks of Challenges’ intervention, we reflect on the take-away from our shared experience. The new recruits gained an insight into the vibrant Zambian start-up culture, and at Outsource Now we attained access to new insights and perspectives. In early July the Challenges business associates began to collect information about our business in order to produce a company diagnostic. As a result of this diagnostic we delved deeper into our product offering, better understanding our supply chain and considering key business priorities to enable continued growth. One of our key take-aways is the need to consistently re-assess the demand-side of our business, monitoring the size of our market, customer perceptions of our service and brand, and keeping an eye on the competition. Associate Lauren Rofe was struck by how ‘Outsource Now are agile, vibrant and open-minded.’ She went on to say that ‘it has been a pleasure to work alongside the team, and I hope to stay in touch, making my skills available to them in the future.’ This is an exciting time for Outsource Now, and we hope that our work with Challenges Worldwide is just the first collaborative partnership of many!

As an entrepreneur you hope that others come to believe in your product as deeply and widely as you do. So when our CCO Chisepo presented a three-minute pitch to the ‘Slush Impact Accelerator’ expert panel last week, we excitedly held our breath for the verdict. In the short time available Chisepo successfully demonstrated the potential of Z’POS, our point of sale retail software, and we progressed through to the next round of the competition. Along with two other Zambian companies, Outsource Now will be travelling to Helsinki in November, pumped and ready to pitch to the business big-wigs! But what is the opportunity, and why are we so excited about it? Bongohive, the competition host, said: ‘Slush Global Impact Accelerator (GIA) is a program created in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and other multiple partners globally. The purpose is to support impact- driven startups and showcase the exciting business opportunities in emerging markets, which are also vital for implementing the Agenda 2030 and solving complex challenges.’ Upon conception, Slush was a 300-person strong event, whereas Helsinki 2017 is expected to attract 17,500 people and 2,500 start-ups, creating a unique and invigorating community of entrepreneurship. Outsource Now are perfectly positioned to appeal to the Slush ‘impact’ panel. As a local Zambian company with big dreams, our profitable Z’POS software facilitates genuine social impact. According to the World Bank, formal SMEs create 4 out of 5 new jobs, meaning that SME empowerment is at the top of the agenda for private sector progress in developing economies. Z’POS software tracks stock and company finances, helping eliminate the need for traditional financial collateral when SMEs seek funding. If SMEs are the backbone of African economies, Outsource Now hold them strong and firm, and we can only hope that the Slush expert panel share in our pioneering vision.

As August comes to a close, the Outsource Now office is never without exciting news. Today, Monday August 21st, we welcome two new faces to the team, Grenda Banda and Wellington Michelo, who join us as IT support interns. Wellington has a diploma in the Management of Information Systems from the Centre for Professional Training and Consultancy, with notable experience in computer hardware and software maintenance. Grenda acquired a diploma last year in Computer Studies from Evelyn Hone College, then working as a sales representative at Top Star Zambia. The expansion of the team is just one new demonstration of Outsource Now's rapid growth. We are bringing IT expertise on board in order to both improve our product offering, and ensure that our customers get the best and most attentive service possible.
